BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA, September 7, 2023 – Manchac Consulting Group, Inc., a professional civil/environmental engineering and operations firm headquartered in Baton Rouge, has agreed to merge with Waggoner Engineering, Inc., a full-service economic development, planning, program management, and engineering firm. The business combination went into effect on August 31, 2023. Terms were not disclosed.
Manchac Consulting Group, Inc. (Manchac) was established in 2009 and offers a full range of engineering services to municipal, state, federal, and private industrial clients. Manchac operates across Louisiana with offices in Baton Rouge, Lake Charles and Bossier City. Manchac also brings to the merger its two fully-owned subsidiaries, Atakapa Services, LLC and Manchac Management Services, LLC. Atakapa Services, LLC (Atakapa) specializes in evaluating, maintaining and designing rehabilitation methods for sanitary sewer and storm drain infrastructure. Manchac Management Services, LLC provides management and O&M services to water and wastewater utilities.
“The addition of Manchac and its subsidiaries furthers Waggoner’s overall offerings as we strive to improve the quality of life of our clients and their communities,” said Matt Butler, President and CEO of Waggoner.
“Manchac’s expansive water and wastewater experience is an obvious complement to Waggoner’s long history of being a leader within this discipline,” added Butler. “Manchac’s portfolio of operations and maintenance as well as environmental engineering services also supplement and expand Waggoner’s capability to deliver full-service, seamless engineering solutions to existing and future clients.”
“Additionally, Atakapa’s highly specialized sanitary and storm sewer evaluation and rehabilitation services add value for Waggoner’s wastewater clients,” continued Butler.
“Atakapa’s vast experience with municipalities, wastewater utility contractors and engineering firms along with their comprehensive range of services reveals they, like Waggoner, aim to be the preferred partner for their clients.”
Manchac and subsidiary leadership will integrate into Waggoner’s, with Kenny Ferachi serving as President, Justin Haydel serving as Executive Vice President and the rest of the management team continuing in their current positions.
“Manchac provides the best solutions to our clients’ problems in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible, and that commitment is only strengthened by our alignment with Waggoner,” said Kenny Ferachi, PE, previous President at Manchac/Atakapa. “We bring our unique project expertise, experienced personnel, and dedication to client satisfaction to Waggoner’s almost 50 years of experience in planning and designing infrastructure. Manchac’s stakeholders will benefit greatly as this partnership unfolds.
“Atakapa is excited to bring our team of professionals experienced in all aspects of sanitary sewer evaluation and rehabilitation services to Waggoner,” added Justin Haydel, PE, previous Chief Executive Officer at Manchac/Atakapa. “Like Waggoner, Atakapa provides clients with the best possible data and sanitary sewer and stormwater solutions. Our goals naturally align, and Atakapa looks forward to growing alongside Waggoner.”
The deal with Manchac and Atakapa is the second partnership in Louisiana with Waggoner since forming a strategic partnership with Trilon Group (Trilon) in early 2022. Waggoner’s first partnership was with Sigma Consulting Group, Inc., of Baton Rouge in November 2022, adding over 30 highly qualified professionals and an additional office location in Pensacola, Florida to the firm.
Trilon Group, backed by Alpine Investors, brings together a family of the nation’s best planning, engineering, and design firms. Strategic partnership with Trilon provides Waggoner with accelerated growth potential, shared common culture and values, and the ability to provide services within a family of companies while retaining our unique identity. Within Trilon, Waggoner leads the strategy for the Water, Municipal, and Disaster Recovery Platform.
The partnership with Manchac and Atakapa expands Waggoner’s 15 offices in six states and Washington D.C. by two additional Louisiana locations and adds approximately 90 qualified employees to its existing team.
“We are elated to bring Manchac Consulting Group and Atakapa Services to Waggoner,” said Butler. “With such an influx of experience, knowledge and dedication, we will continue to deliver on our promise of transforming communities through innovative solutions.”
